In corporate news, Walmart reported third-quarter earnings results that were above expectations, and it increased its full-year guidance. Treasury prices were higher from the prior day.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 3 points or 0.1% to 3,097
The NASDAQ Composite Index was down 3 points to 8,479
The 30-year Treasury yield closed trading lower at 2.31%
And the 10-year Treasury yield finished lower at 1.82%
The spot price of gold rose $7.90 to $1,471.20
And the price of crude oil fell $0.21 to $56.91
